And Empty Ye Shall Remain

So incase you may not recall, the above image is of the small wooden box I bought to house my "Kruggy." Here's an image of her from back in the day:

"Kruggy" is the nickname I gave to one of the many gold bullion coins I (briefly) owned during the heyday of Op V. It's short, of course, for Krugerrand, the name of the South African issued gold bullion coin. I just loved the lustre, style and aura of this coin the most. Not to say the others were shabby, I mean just look at these guys here for instance, they're all exquisite, but the Krugerrand, and the obverse image of the Springbok antelope especially just hits me in the feels so well.

Now of course it's been quite a minute since I last sold my second Kruggy (yes I bought two of them if you remember) so this little box has been empty for some time and, thus, has not been sitting here on my nightstand like this. But for dramatic effect I thought I'd pull it out of the drawer I stuffed it away in and display it showing a dusty felt-lined nothingness. Why is that?

I just on a whim thought I'd check out the spot price of gold this morning and, well, here's a chart showing where it's at:

$3,363.50

In the pics above when I had these coins, gold was roughly trading at $1,300 an ounce. I'm not so good at math but I figure it's a bit more than two and a half times the price now. In just six years. According to my records, I made just under $50K for my stash when I cashed out the majority in '19. Had I held on...well, you do the math.

Suffice it to say though, pretty savanna-trotting antelope not withstanding, my box won't be gettin' any fuller anytime soon.

Maybe I'll chuck a penny into it? Now that it's discontinued, it'll eventually become more rarified, right?

What'll I call it though? Abe-y?

EDIT: I literally woke up in the middle of the night last night and decided I'd go ahead, jump on Amazon and fill my box up once again! Hazzah! Thar be gold in these thar cedar squares! Well, fool's gold at least...

For a whopping $8.82, behold my Saint-Gaudens Walking Liberty American Gold Eagle! Gold-colored that is. Of course it's fake. But I figure she'll be a little token to commemorate my triumph of OpV, as it were, for whatever it was worth, and at whatever the ultimate cost.
