Conjunction Junction, What's Your Function?

 

Tonight, Jupiter and Saturn could be seen closer to each other in the evening sky than they have been seen for millennia. Almost conjoined in appearance, as if it were suddenly a new bright star, some are already dubbing this as the "Christmas Star."

But if you remember my earlier post about how humans have perceived astronomical phenomenon with suspicion over the ages, and considering what year this is after all, perhaps it's not a sign of hope, but one of doom!

Wouldn't it be grand if everyone on this side of the world was all distracted by this mildly interesting spectacle only to totally ignore something far more nefarious coming at us from the other edge of the deep, dark reaches of outer space?
