I was expecting this to happen, as they stated it would, on Wednesday, which would have been exactly the second Wednesday of the month, but early is good too. It hit my account today just after one o'clock in the morning. With all the craziness happening, especially with this government, I was a bit nervous whether it would be delivered as promised at all. Well I guess some things are still dependable.
Yep, there you see it. My bank notified me of the direct deposit of my first Social Security check. It's official...
I'm retired.
Well of course I've been "retired" for a while now, haven't I? After Lakewood in '18, I looked for replacement fulltime work but it was rough seeking out jobs that would want an over 50 year old dude and that I wanted since I was burned out on much of anything I was previous experienced and/or qualified for. My costs were escalating living in the Orlando area so I had to downscale by moving to much cheaper digs in a forgotten armpit of the state and in lieu of employment I chose to "parlay my stellar credit" into liquid gold... quite literally (well, it wasn't actually liquid, that shit was solid as you know). And that lasted a while. Then I did some gig work. Then a feeble attempt to get back into the fulltime game but I wasn't really into all that for very long, was I? Then I turned 59 and a half and I started withdrawing from my IRA in chunks over the past couple years. Chunks that for the most part, thanks to the relatively healthy market, have mostly replenished themselves. But now I can leave that nest egg alone, to grow to its heart's content (except for maybe a couple grand a year 'cause, as you can see, the amount per month from SS is piddling) and I can never have to worry about working ever again.
I just hope I didn't jinx myself right now. Knowing my luck, maybe I did.
