It May Be Wyze Not To Blink

So my web view for WYZE cam events has been skittish again lately. They've always had shitty support for this. The app, no problem, but for us dinosaurs who like to use a computer to see their security cam footage, they're not so enthusiastic.

I get it. More upgrade opportunities for them if folks use the app, plus, of course, like all hapless phone addicted idiots, users basically give up all that precious private info on their phones to the company for them to make all that backend info farming sales revenue. Not so much with Windows, Macs or especially Linux. Good luck getting shit about a Linux user.

Basically the thumbnails aren't populating so I have to actually either hover for about three seconds or click on the clip to see what it captured. Pain in the ass. Plus, it keeps emailing me that a "new login has been detected" every fucking time I log in on the web. It even verifies that it's the same exact IP address as the last log in. WTF?

So I was contemplating jumping ship, as much as that would pain me and swapping out my cams with something else. I saw they had a sale for Blink Mini's for just $15 so I went ahead and ordered one. I figured I'd try it out and see how it'd compare before I would make the change.

Well, there's such thing as worse than poor; it's bad. Blink is bad.

No web support whatsoever right off the top, that's the number one thing. Then there's the app, it's cumbersome, unintuitive and slow to send notifications of events. And don't get me started on the camera's visual quality. Now, granted, as you can see below, it's on a par with the WYZE Cam 2.0 but the 3.0's which are represented by the last pic (I'd first set up a 3.0 on the porch back in '22) are much better.

My WYZE annual subscription is coming due at the end of the month and since, like everything else in this world, they went up, I'll just go ahead and spend a smidge more and upgrade to the "Unlimited" package which'll cover all three WYZE cams with full cloud storage of video clips and probably some other shit features which I could care less about. I'll still keep the Blink camera but after this 30 day trial of its service they gave runs out I'll just use it as a live viewer I guess and it can live on the porch where you see it now, nestled in a pot of fake flowers, so I can watch the sun go down and my colorful windsocks flutter in the breeze.

Like Ferris Bueller said, "Life moves pretty fast, so you'd be wise not to blink..." or some such shit, right?

Bow, bow, chicka, chicka bow...OH YEAH... OH YEAH!!
