I saw this thumbnail in my YouTube feed and thought it must be some Onion-style parody video and for the first few seconds it seems like it with it showing images of oil pipelines, turgid waters, scavenger seagulls, rusty tug boats and a burning refinery flare stack. But then a fat Iranian Rick Steves comes into view and narrates to us about the history and culture of Kharg Island which he pronounces with the appropriate amount of phlegm as you'd expect. Not sure why this tourist video, meant, I guess, for informational purposes only for a domestic Iranian audience (since, as our narrator mentions, Kharg Island may only be accessed by energy industry personnel and indigenous inhabitants) posted months ago popped up now. Maybe because this place has gotten a bit o' attention in the news of late. And ol' King Cheeto the First may be hankerin' to send some boots on this ground sometime soon? Well, maybe I'll skip this as my next vaca spot. I'll let the youngsters who fell for the hokum about an "opportunity" of a career in the military take their stroll on those beaches. Too harsh? Maybe. But you know what they say, "live by the sword..."
