Welcome To My Vault

Vaults in Fallout lore were the ultimate sanctuary. For two hundred years many humans survived the horrors of nuclear war living out generations in vast underground bunkers built by a mysterious company called Vault-Tec to weather the bad times and wait it out. Of course the fact that that company also used the vaults as labs where the inhabitants were subject to all sorts of sometimes quite questionable experimentation. And, with the addition of the TV series' backstory as canon, its a given that they also conspired with other industrialists to drop the bombs in the first place.

All that aside, in the game, Vaults were usually only available early on as you needed to leave the relative safety of them in order to start your adventure. But now with the Vault-Tec DLC I bought on sale this past weekend, you can now build your own vault from the ground up. Well, actually, I guess, from the under-ground up.

Just like other bases that can be built by the player, there are many pieces that can be constructed and then added to your place. NPCs can be encouraged to join your "settlement" for a more robust roleplay immersion. For me, just like when I play other build games, I like the Build part, I don't really care about the Roleplay part. Oh, don't get me wrong, I still love running around the Commonwealth shootin' all the baddies I can, it's the fiddling around with the settlers and catering to their whiny needs. Ugh.

Above I've just about completed the main hall called The Atrium. This process can be fiddly and tedious what with trying to make all the pieces fit and getting all the junk you need, but it looks cool and though it's similar to a thousand other Vaults out there 'cause we're all using the same set pieces, it's the way you put them together and decorate that makes it your own. It's quite in the early stages so it's dark and pretty empty. I did finish the cafeteria, a farm yard, and four bedrooms for the eight settlers. I've also started on the game room including a pool table, a clinic and a couple other common rooms which I haven't yet designated because I keep running out of junk so I have to fuck around up on the surface world with all the ghouls, raiders and super mutants for cloth, aluminum, glass and copper and shit.

Oh, and here's my Overseer's Office. Sweet, huh? Don't ask how I became Overseer. Let's just say, it wasn't an election.
