...Darkness Shall Cover the Earth
Such is the title of the tenth movement of Handel's Messiah, a perennial classic performed in concert halls across the world around this time of year.
It's 7:30pm Eastern as I type this and in thirty minutes time, tonight's performance will begin at this building shown here:
The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
Oh, wait...
Sorry. I mean The Donald J. Trump and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts Center
For Behold, Darkness Shall Cover the Earth
The age of darkness is just beginning.
In the meantime, here's a video of an excellent performance of this masterpiece from a few years ago at the Sydney Opera House. At least he can't rename that place.
Yes, BTW, I may be an atheist who doesn't celebrate Christmas but I love this oratorio. Enjoy. And to those attending at the newly-renamed venue tonight...focus on the art, and the honoring of the truly great leader for whom this center was originally named. The new one will be scrubbed off after the darkness has come to pass some time in the hopefully near future. Then we can all sing:
Hallelujah!
