Hello, My Baby! Hello, My Darling!

So I was browsing Google Streetview checking out the area in downtown Miami of a potential parking garage for my upcoming cruise when I stumbled upon this interesting little timeline.

I've clipped the shots of the same location on one street where back in 2007 development begins on what looks like a planned high-end condo high-rise tower and we see in subsequent reshoots of the Google Streetview cameras over the course of the next seventeen years this sad tale play out.

First construction begins and signage (is it called "scrim?") on the chain-link fence says "Think Logik, Be Logik, Buy Logik" and promises condos starting in the 200s (of course, $200,000). What is "Logik?" Couldn't find out with a Google search. There's a realty outfit from Michigan with that name but it doesn't look like they'd be into Miami high-rises. But then we know what happened in 2008 so I guess we can figure out what happened to "Logik" and their condo project.

Well a few floors got some concrete poured and it was starting to take shape when the financial crisis hit and this poor plot of property never, ever recovered.

Scrim got torn down, weeds grew, and it became a sad eyesore.

But then in 2015, it looks like a new developer took over and promised that, by "2016" there'd be a new tower now dubbed the "Krystal Tower," again offering one and two bedroom condos starting from the 200s.

But in the very next picture, taken in 2016, we see not one inch of the tower having risen any further and the fluttering flags announcing "Coming Soon 2016" are ripped to shreds.

More scrim down.

Then in 2020, a new shiny layer of fresh scrim gets stretched over that now-13-year-old-fence. "BH Group" has claimed the plot and they will rise to the challenge to build like no one's done before! COMING SOON says their signage...leaving out any commitment on any date whatsoever. Just as well since...

Two years later, it's AGAIN all changed. Well, the scrim, the signage and the promises of the future that is. The site and the construction...not one bit. In fact, we've seen two other skyscrapers rise up over the course of this timeline of stagnation in the background as other sites seem to have gotten their funding from sources other than Cracker Jack boxes. This time though, in the words of Dr. Bruce Banner, I think, I think it's going to work! This project is throwing out the condo tower idea and their going to build "Miami Station," Flagship Office, Residences and Retail. Oh yeah, this'll do it!

August 2024. Demolition has commenced. The concrete "tower" never got more than three or four floors high depending how you'd count them. Now the scrim says HUB MIAMI. Let me check quick quick, right now in 2025 how they're doing...

They still have an active website so I guess that's a good sign. And here's an artistic concept of the imagined completed building which, if you ask me, at the rate we've seen here, should be finished sometime in 2039.

My question is: Will they be placing Michigan J. Frog in the cornerstone of this only for him to be discovered by some demo guy in maybe 2060?
