Getting Ready For The Celebration

The hills are alive with the sound of -- blogging?

Yeah, sure, okay.

So in case you blinked and missed it, coming up in just a few scant weeks, believe it or not, this blog will be celebrating its 20th anniversary! Well I guess it won't be celebrating since it's a blog which means it's not alive, it's an inanimate object which exists only in a digital form, I guess I'll be celebrating. But, come on, freaking 20 fucking years!! I mean take a look around at what used to be called, back in the day, the "blogosphere." If you can find blogs, either here on this format Blogger, or others like WordPress or other janky (ie. free) places, that have lasted more than a decade, then you found a rare gem!

Most blogs, unless they're commercial, don't last but a few years at most. And that commercial part is a big distinction. Blogs like this which never have chosen to go the route of seeking monetization in any form, whether it be passive AdSense advertising or outright pandering to a community of some sort in order to either sell something or to try to promote myself as an "influencer" in order to boost revenue via sponsors, direct ads or Patreon-style donos (ebegging), used to be a dime a dozen, but also as ephemeral as a spring's snow flurry momentarily dusting the morning grass. Even better written ones that avoid janky-ass run-on sentences like the previous one. But heck, if you've been reading my blog for a while, you know I'm famous for that...sorry Mrs. Morin.

The picture above I guess needs some explaining...

Unsure how I should celebrate KoDe's anniversary, I googled "how to celebrate your blog's anniversary" and got such wonderful advice like this gal who suggests I do such things like make a charcuterie board and have a wine tasting and take pictures of it for my social media followers or perhaps to use colorful balloons that were not used from my last birthday party. Who the fuck does she think I am? I have no followers. I have no balloons. I throw no parties!

Or there's this chick that took these pictures, one of them pasted above, that portray her as some Pollyanna in the field enjoying nature as if she was a virgin being given up for King Kong or something. I'm not going to get King Kong's dong in me. There are times I think about it, but it ain't going to happen. And if it does, I'm not wearing no white muslin dress! And this bitch was celebrating just an 8 year blog anniversary. What the fuck would she do if it got to 20?

Then there's this one, another Pollyanna bitch, what's with Google giving me all these fem women catering to fu-fu tastes? Anyway, glancing over her celebration of her second anniversary, she does use a technique that I did I think during my 5th anniversary where I go back and I post links to popular blog posts over the past 5 years. I could do that; make a top 100 if I was really gung-ho about it or something like that but then again that's a lot of fucking work. Maybe a top 50? I mean, at present, Blogger says I have 2,017 posts. I'm sure I could find quite a few juicy ones from over the years.

I was thinking of a style overhaul but I'm old and crusty and I like the current layout. We've been through a few over the decades and this one, though it's been around a minute, seems to work well...both on a computer and, yes, for the masses, on a phone.

One of the big questions I have in trying to think of a way to celebrate this momentous occasion is in the overall focus of the blog in general. If we look back at the title of the very first post Time Reports in the 21st Century and we read what basically is a preamble describing what this blog will be, one gets the general idea that this blog was created to be a collection of posts looking back at the past. And generally, over the past 20 years, that is what it's been. But I'm wondering if my celebration on July 8th shouldn't focus more on the future? Where will this blog go? Where will I go?

It'd be nice if that is what inspires me to let down my hair and jubilantly frolic in the sun-kissed fields.
