The Chinese Chang'e-6 lunar explorer lifted off yesterday from the far side of the moon heading back to Earth, Inner Mongolia to be precise, with a load of moon rocks. But not before the cute little rover robotically raised the patriotic flag of the Chinese Nation. According to a Chinese official, the flag is made of material that should last 10,000 years.
Take a look at the video below to see this historic flag raising. I thought it'd be a human-sized flag planted in the lunar dirt like the historic American flag erected by the crew of Apollo 11. You know, like the astronaut that plants the MTV flag. But, er, not really.
And frankly, as evidenced by the proof illustrated above, both the US and China are quite late to the flag planting space race. My good ol' avatar, Marvin, plopped the Martian flag down back in the mid twentieth century.
So nice effort guys, but you only get the Bronze medal, China. The Gold went to Mars a long time ago.
EDIT: Apparently, yesterday's flag hoisting isn't China's first flag on the moon. That event goes back to 2020. My bad. Welp, no matter...Mars is still number one!
