It took a few hours of research to make sure that the deal I found was worth it, but I think, I just might have lucked out...
Soon to be delivered in a couple weeks from the good people at Woot, the Amazon sub-company from whom I purchased my $900 laptop back in 2018... Won't you welcome the new Queen... Mildred XIX.
Now there is a bit of a risk with this of course. As you can see in the specs listed below, this unit was on clearance and it's clearly stated that it is a factory reconditioned, open box sale. So what that specifically looks like to me is someone bought it, opened it up, found out something was wrong with it, sent it back, the factory fixed the issue, and it's being resold at an awesome price.
In my research I found that the biggest complaint about this gaming PC was that it was missing either the power button for the entire computer or the flip switch power control button for the PSU. I find it almost impossible to believe that the power button for the computer itself would not have been designed into the case. Perhaps there was a loose connector or something underneath the button, I don't know. As far as a power switch on the PSU, yes my current desktop Mildred XVII, does have one and I think the Dell I had before her had one, but going back in time I don't remember too many power supplies with their own switches. It wouldn't be a game changer for me since frankly I think I used it only once on the current computer.
So we'll soon see how our new Queen turns out. The current Royal Highness is showing her age. Her 2nd generation Sandy Bridge i7 is pretty decrepit now and all the Frankenputer add-ons I've thrown in her over the years just aren't jiving too well anymore. Of course the wear and tear on our current Majesty was most noticeable after the installation of the Western Digital one terabyte drive, and I hope the majority of the problems Mildred XVII is enduring isn't connected directly to that hard drive addition since I plan on transferring that to the new Mildred. I mean 512 gig SSD is nice but it isn't going to cut it as the only storage option.
EDIT: When I unboxed her I discovered they surprised me with a 1TB SSD, no added cost!
So I put this purchase on my new card. She has a $3,000 credit limit. And yes, no nefariousness here, I will pay it off. But I may take my time and endure a bit of finance charges since even though I'll soon be withdrawing $5,000 from my IRA to fund my pre-retirement lifestyle, I plan on this computer purchase to be a durable good purchase for my business and I intend that revenue from that business be used to pay off my credit card.
What revenue? Well that'll be my next post...
