So, back when I got hired to this new job, I chose this wallpaper to celebrate the fact that I'd finally see money coming in. It was supposed to be a good luck charm, the eye of the pyramid would have magically made all manner of wealth available to me.
In reality, maybe not so much.
Yes I'll soon be pulling in a real income, more than I can say for the past four plus years of course, but so far, it's come at an upfront cost basis.
I will need to use my car every work day and perhaps for some significant miles. They've told me some of the training and/or conferences I'll be soon attending require hundreds of miles of travel and overnight stays. Now I'm told that's all on company credit cards and reimbursement for miles, but, well, we'll see.
I'm hourly so I have to clock in and out on their system each day, but it seems like the culture is to do a smidge more off the clock as needed. This is contrary to their documented training materials but it would, wouldn't it. They can't get in trouble now.
Lunches are unpaid and I'll be out in the community during most workdays making the convenience and availability of fast food lunches right there. Will I pay MickyD's prices for a small lunch, adding up to hundreds of dollars a month?
I'll apparently be driving clients around so there's wear and tear, mileage and, just today I'm told I have to increase my insurance coverage at the tune of about $300 more each six month period.
Being a bit of a road warrior job, using a laptop away from available WIFI, I may need to upgrade my cell coverage to accommodate. How much will that cost? $50, $100 more a month?
The health insurance offerings are atrocious. I will have to pay a minimum of about $160 a pay period (every two weeks) for shitty insurance compared to the luscious Obamacare I got now. I'm looking at not only the monthly premium increase (from the current $7 a month) but PCP visit copay going from $0 to $35, specialist visit from $10 to $60. No non-generic meds (so goodbye name brand Jardiance) and, if I opt for the home delivery, $25 for every 90 day supply of each med. I currently have about 10 generic meds, so $250 every 3 months, as opposed to now which is $0. And a huge deductible, low coinsurance and high out-of-pocket annual limit. Oh brother.
Is Paris still worth that Mass? Well, I'll be making about $1000 take home every two weeks which is about $900 more than now if you factor in the Prolific and Pinecone earnings. And though I'll have less time for them, I should still be able to fit them in, so let's call it $1,100 take home every two weeks, $28,600 a year...again, after taxes and deductions.
Okay, keep beaming your rainbow magnificence All Knowing Eye, 'cause you may be watching me, but you know what, I'll also be watching you!
