My Country 'Tis Of Thee?

 

The farce continues in Washington. The Republicans are in apparent disarray as they can't seem to get anywhere in the simple enough task of choosing a Speaker of the House of Representatives. Today, Day 3 of this circus, we get this dickwad, Matt Gaetz who stands up when called to vote and nominates Donald Trump for Speaker. Even his fellow Republicans sitting nearby don't seem too amused by this craziness.

But what if it isn't so crazy after all:

A commenter on YouTube wrote the following in response to someone else asking if it was allowed to vote a non-representative to that office. Short answer: Technically, according to the Constitution: Yes. But look at his assumption about Gaetz's potential ploy:

Yes there is no requirement that the Speaker be a congressman.  Theoretically they could elect trump. Simultaneously impeach Biden and Harris. Trump becomes President and because the term is more than half over trump could run for reelection in 2024 and serve a full second term.

Which reminds me of my tongue-in-cheek post listing out the highly whack-a-doodle Machiavellian moves I "predicted" Trump would make to stay in power way back in September 2020. Before the election which Trump denied as valid, before his stirring of the mob of his fanatical followers, before the insurrection siege of the Capitol, before the reactionary assemblage of the January 6th Committee (Committee of Public Safety ala 1792 France?)
